Most Memorable Drug-Related Movies (Pt. 2)

Last week, we shared our top 5 favorite drug- related movies. Without further adieu, here’s our next five:

Traffic (2000)
This drama explores the effects of international drug trafficking. All fronts are shown for their source, the U.S. border, the federal government, and the user’s private lives. The film is given in three main storylines as well as almost a dozen locales.

Half Baked (1998)
Half Baked is about three friends who come up with a series of crazy plans to get a friend out of jail. They decide to sell marijuana that one of the guys gets from his job as a janitor for a pharmaceutical lab. The comedy comes from the friends not being the brightest of young men.

Up In Smoke (1978)

This old comedy is about- you guessed it- Cheech and Chong. While looking to score some dope, they accidentally get deported to Mexico. During their attempt to drive back to the states in a van, they embark on some odd adventures.

Basketball Diaries (1995)
Jim (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a member of an unbeatable high school basketball team and dreams of being a basketball star. Jim grows an appetite for heroin leading him to stealing, robbing, and prostituting himself in the streets of New York. His problem continues to get worse before getting help from an old friend.

Drugstore Cowboy (1989)
Set in the 1970s, a group of superstitious users steal from drugstores to support their habits. When a member of the crew dies of an overdose, they have to figure out how to move the body from their hotel room during an unexpected sheriff’s convention.

We know that we left out other great drug-related movies, as it was difficult to make a top 10! What are some other movies of your generation that show the dangers and horrors of drug use?

I have never watched a lot of these movies. A movie that shows the use of drugs is The Town with Blake Lively. You can totally tell her character is using.

There are plenty of movies that could have made either of your lists. Either way, these are great lists, and some are very good for drug education in school.
